75 days patrolling the Last Frontier

The Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley returned to their homeport of Kodiak, Alaska, Jan. 22, 2017, after a 75-day patrol. The cutter’s path took her 10,000 miles through the Bering Sea.

Leadership has no rank

It’s often thought that a military leader must come from a high rank or command staff which fosters the development of junior members to one day become leaders themselves. However Coast Guardsmen like Petty Officer 2nd Class Noel Cordero, a junior member aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley, prove the qualities of a good leader have no rank requirement.

The Coast Guard 17th District 2014 Enlisted Petty Officer of the Year is Petty Officer 1st Class Brent Taylor, a Louisiana native, serves as an electronics technician aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley homeported in Kodiak, Alaska.

African American History Month: DCC Spencer Wilson

African American History Month is an annual celebration in February to recognize the achievements and central role by African Americans in U.S. history. In honor of Black History month, five members of Coast Guard 17th District will be featured throughout the month. International search in the Bering

In a community effort between the Coast Guard, Russian SAR Mission Coordinator, international good Samaritans, South Korean government and the U.S. Air Force, a 4,576 square mile search was conducted for the 60 crewmembers of the capsized South Korean fishing vessel 501 Oryong in the Bering Sea off the coast of the Chukotka in northeast Russia.
