>Coast Guard Sector Anchorage


Sector Anchorage has the largest geographical Area of Responsibility in the nation, which includes the oil rich North Slope, Bering Sea, Chukchi Sea, Bristol Bay (with the world’s largest run of sockeye salmon), Kodiak Island, Kenai Peninsula, and the Aleutian Islands.

Their major missions include: Search and Rescue (SAR), Marine Safety, Aid to Navigation (AtoN), Ice Operations, Marine Environmental Protection (MEP), Living Marine Resources (LMR), Illegal Drug Interdiction, Other Law Enforcement, Ports Waterways and Coastal Security (PWCS), and Defense Readiness.

The Sector consists of roughly 80 personnel in Anchorage but 150 or so total. Their subunits include: Marine Safety Unit Valdez, Sector Field Office Valdez, Station Valdez, CGC Long Island, CGC Mustang, CGC Roanoke Island, Aids to Navigation Team Kodiak, Marine Safety Detachment Kenai, Marine Safety Detachment Kodiak and Marine Safety Detachment Unalaska.
