>Coast Guard Sector Anchorage personnel conduct damage survey on Horizon Anchorage

>Chief Warrant Officer Darrel Howells and Lt. j.g. Chris Nichols of Coast Guard Sector Anchorage examine and catalog damage on the 698-foot cargo vessel Horizon Anchorage at the Port of Anchorage March 9, 2009. They assisted Chief Warrant Officer Scott Stykel and were joined by Lt. Michael Benson. Additional inspectors from Marine Safety Detachment Kenai. Lt. Mike Franklin and Chief Warrant Officer Michael Watson,  also worked on the survey which took a total of about 15 hours.

The vessel suffered damage from a 40-foot wave in the Gulf of Alaska while transiting to Anchorage from Tacoma, Wash. The inspectors cataloged about 90 items on more than three decks during the survey. They worked with the American Bureau of Shipping, the class society, and made recommendations regarding temporary repairs that were required before the vessel was allowed to sail to Seattle for further repairs.(Coast Guard photo/PA1 Sara Francis)
