>Always Ready…
It was a quiet evening…or so I thought it would be at least. I was sitting in my berthing enjoying a good book when the fire bell came on over the speaker. They announced that a fuel line had ruptured in the engine room. My shipmates and I rushed to our stations and prepared to fight the fire; because out here we are the fire department. Within minutes the order to stand down came through. Thanks to our response teams and the quick actions of the watchstanders, we were able to avoid the fire and any damage it would’ve caused. We train for those situations, hoping that it never happens, but knowing that if it does occur we will be ready.
