> Master Chief Peterson enlisted in the Coast Guard in January 1978. Upon completion of basic training, he reported to his first assignment at Training Center Cape May, New Jersey where he advanced to BM3. In 1980 he requested a change in rating and attended Aviation Structural Mechanic School at Elizabeth City, NC. His follow-on assignments include: Air Station Sitka, Alaska, Air Station Clearwater, Florida, Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Aviation Technical Training Center Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Air Station Clearwater, Florida, Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, Seventeenth District Command Master Chief (East) Juneau, Alaska, Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama, and most recently the Aviation Maintenance Technician Rating Force Master Chief at Coast Guard Headquarters. He assumed the duties of District Seventeen Command Master Chief (West) on June 2, 2008.

Master Chief Peterson is a graduate of Aviation Structural Mechanic ‘A’ School, Coast Guard Leadership and Management Course, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Academy, (Class XXXV), Navy Command Master Chief Course, and Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course. Master Chief Peterson holds an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license and an Associate’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics.

Master Chief Peterson’s personal awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Coast Guard Commendation Medal with two gold stars and “O” device, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Commandant’s Letter of Commendation with “O” device, Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation with two gold stars, and Coast Guard Good Conduct Award with one silver star and four bronze stars.
