> The United States Coast Guard Cutter MAPLE, or “Keeper of the Northern Lights”, is a 225’ Juniper Class buoy tender home-ported in the beautiful town of Sitka, Alaska. Because the MAPLE is one of the few afloat units in Southeast Alaska, we are involved in a broad range of missions including search and rescue, fisheries law enforcement, aids to navigation, and pollution response.

A crew of 7 officers and 42 enlisted members, led by Commanding Officer Daniel W. Gray, operate the MAPLE on patrols of a 1000 mile area of operation from Skagway to Ketchikan. This area contains countless aids to navigation and is home to thousands of fishing vessels.
