The CGC ANACAPA and its 17 person crew returned to Petersburg, AK on February 20th. The cutter, which departed Petersburg in December of 2008, had since been in the Coast Guard Yards in Baltimore, MD undergoing extensive renovations and maintenance.

The ANACAPA departed the CG Yards on the 15th of January to commence it 7,500 nautical mile journey home. Along the way they visited ports such as Key West Florida, Grand Cayman Island, the Panama Canal, Zihuatanejo and Cabo San Lucas Mexico, and Victoria British Columbia. Throughout the trip, the crew expertly handled heavy weather, equipment casualties and learning to live in tight quarters. Although, some of the port calls offered unique experiences and winter warmth everyone onboard was anxious to return home after 84 days away from family and friends.

The CGC ANACAPA was warmly welcomed home by family members waiting on the pier on the evening of February 20th.

After a brief period of stand-down, the crew returned to work to prepare for returning to business as usual in Southeast Alaska and upcoming patrols.
