>Valdez Coast Guard receives 2010 environmental sustainability award

VALDEZ, Alaska – Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Valdez recently received the 2010 Environmental Sustainability award in the category of natural resource protection.

MSU Valdez was chosen to receive this national award for their work to establish the Citizen’s Action Network in Prince William Sound.

The Citizen’s Action Network is a public outreach program that enlists the assistance of residents to verify suspicious activity, flare sightings, and pollution incidents for the U.S. Coast Guard; all from the comfort of your own home. This program allows residents living near waterways to become associated with the Coast Guard and help conduct its missions.

The only requirements for participating are having access to a phone and a marine view from your home. If you are interested in becoming a Citizen’s Action Network member, please call (907) 835-7214 or (907) 835-7217.
