Nov. 27 – Coast Guard watchstanders received notification that the 40-foot fishing vessel Fram, with one person aboard, was grounded on a rock near Onslow Island. The master requested no Coast Guard assistance but was placed on a one-hour communications schedule with Sector Juneau. The Fram sustained a three-inch hole in its hull that the master patched. Some minor flooding occurred but the vessel’s pump was able to control the flooding. The Fram was refloated and anchored near Etolin Island.

Nov. 30 – The Coast Guard Cutter Healy is in transit to its next survey line near the Bering Strait. The Healy crew is on their fourth visit to the Arctic this season. For the Healy’s final trip, 18 scientists embarked the ship and are studying the behavior of copepods. The crew anticipates returning home to Seattle before the Christmas holiday.

Dec. 1 – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules aircrew returned this week from a Joint Interagency Task Force South patrol monitoring operations and searching for evidence of illicit drug trafficking and other narco-terrorist threats. A second crew is making preparations to deploy for further support of this mission.

Dec. 1 – Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Juneau were notified by the master of the 42-foot vessel Cleo that the boat had grounded in Portage Bay with one person aboard. An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched and delivered a dewatering pump to the vessel. Once the vessel was successfully dewatered and refloated on the high tide, the master transited to Petersburg where he was met by a boarding team from the Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa. The team conducted a post search and rescue safety boarding on the Cleo.
