Deck Watch speaks with the Fisher House CEO

This week Deck Watch spoke with Ken Fisher, the CEO and chairman of the Fisher House Foundation, about the charity organization’s new branch in Anchorage. Click here to listen.

Here’s what else happened in Alaska during the week:

Feb. 19 – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a 52-year-old man from the fishing vessel Island Enterprise about 15 miles southwest of St. Paul after it was reported he was suffering from a possible heart attack.  The man was transferred by the rescue crew in stable condition to commercial services in St. Paul for further transport to Anchorage.

Feb. 19 – An Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew forward deployed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley medevaced a 38-year-old man from the container ship Global Bay about 180 miles south of Dutch Harbor.  The man was reportedly suffering from symptoms consistent with appendicitis.  The Dolphin crew successfully hoisted the man when the ship was about 85 miles away from Dutch Harbor.  He was transferred to awaiting medical services in Dutch Harbor.

Feb. 21 – District 17 watchstanders received a report from Island Air Service of Kodiak that a de Havilland Beaver on floats had crashed upon take off from Long Island Lagoon about 9 miles northeast of Air Station Kodiak with three people aboard.  The three people were able to scramble to the top of the plane.  The air station was preparing to launch a rescue helicopter crew, a Navy small boat in the area was able to assist.  The people were taken to emergency medical personnel for further evaluation.  No injuries were reported.
