Cutter John McCormick crewmembers assist with Skagway Public Library reading event

The Skagway Public Library warmly welcomed the crewmembers of the Coast Guard Cutter John McCormick, Thursday, to assist with their weekly story time.

Children with ages ranging from 1-4 years old gathered in the reading room while the crew, freshly arrived off the new cutter, read aloud before joining the attendees in singing several songs.

“It’s always delightful to get to interact with these communities when we pull into Southeast Alaskan ports,” said Lt.j.g. Hailey Thompson. “We absolutely loved story time with the little ones, and are so grateful to the Skagway Public Library for letting us join them on this snowy visit to town.”

The John McCormick is homeported in Ketchikan, Alaska, where it was also commissioned in April 2017. Its primary missions are search and rescue and living marine resource protection.
