African American History Month: DCC Spencer Wilson
African American History Month is an annual celebration in February to recognize the achievements and central role by African Americans in U.S. history. In honor of Black History month, five members of Coast Guard 17th District will be featured throughout the month. The first installment features Chief Petty Officer Spencer Wilson, a damage controlman stationed aboard Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley in Kodiak, Alaska.

Through the Coast Guard Work-Life program, Coast Guard spouses are offered the opportunity to provide a personal form of child care service, giving military parents peace of mind in how their child is being cared for.

Honoring our military families in the Coast Guard
November is the Month of the Military Family in which we honor the families that support our troops. In the Coast Guard, a select few military spouses volunteer as ombudsmen to provide knowledge of work life services and referrals for specific services such as doctor referrals, schools, and education and employment opportunities.

Honoring those keeping us safe
Kodiak is home to one of five Coast Guard police departments. May 15 is Peace Officer Memorial Day and National Police Week is celebrated the same week.
